Leadership in safety management earns Resolute an award
In September 2015, RISI’s Pulp and Paper International (PPI) presented Resolute with an award in the managing risk category. This prize honors true innovation in a company’s approach to loss prevention, safety and risk management. Resolute’s winning entry highlighted the company’s safety management system and focus on safety as a core value. Resolute was also a finalist in the bio strategy of the year category. The PPI awards are the only global awards dedicated to recognizing and celebrating excellence in the pulp and paper sector.
Clean50 kudos for Pascale Lagacé, Jim Balik, Mylène Labrie and Alice Minville
On September 22, 2015, Pascale Lagacé, Resolute’s vice president of Environment and Climate Change, was named to Canada’s prestigious Clean50
awards for 2016. Pascale and the Resolute Team, which includes Jim Balik, manager, Environment – U.S. Pulp and Paper Operations, Mylène Labrie, analyst, Environment and Climate Change, and Alice Minville, senior legal counsel – with strong support from Resolute President and CEO Richard Garneau – have helped drive a cultural shift that has been embraced by all employees throughout the company. The award recognizes leaders who have made the greatest contributions to sustainable development or “clean capitalism” in Canada. This is the second year in a row that Resolute has received this honor.
Best in Biz International Awards
Most Socially or Environmentally Responsible Company of the Year
On August 5, 2015, Resolute received a bronze Best in Biz Award (International) for Most Socially or Environmentally Responsible Company of the Year. The honor recognized the company’s world-class safety performance, the certification of nearly all facility environmental management systems to ISO 14001, transparent sustainability reporting, innovative partnerships with Aboriginal peoples, community outreach, and reduction of environmental incidents. In December 2015, Resolute also won a same-category silver award under the Best in Biz North American program. Best in Biz Awards are the only global business awards program judged solely by members of the press and industry analysts.
APA – The Engineered Wood Association Safety and Health Awards
Wood products facilities rewarded for world-class safety standards
Our Resolute-LP Larouche and Saint-Prime (Quebec) joint-venture engineered wood facilities picked up prestigious 2014 safety and health awards from APA–The Engineered Wood Association in recognition of their excellent safety records as well as commitment to maintaining an injury-free workplace and respecting world-class safety standards. The APA Safety and Health awards are based on lowest injury rates and severity, greatest improvement in reducing injuries, innovations to reduce injuries, and best company record.
Closing the Loop Awards
Menominee mill recognized for recycling leadership
Resolute’s recycled bleached kraft (RBK) pulp mill in Menominee (Michigan) received a Closing the Loop award at the state’s first Governor’s Recycling Summit in May 2015, in recognition of its support of recycling. The Menominee facility uses wastepaper that is diverted from landfills to produce affordable, high-quality products. The Closing the Loop award was created by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the Michigan Recycling Coalition to recognize individuals or groups that: design products to be recyclable; purchase and use products made of recycled content; or create and manufacture recycled-content products.
